The Minnesota Vikings saluted military Servicemembers and veterans during their annual Military Appreciation game at the Mall of America Field in Minneapolis, Nov. 20. The Iowa-based 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, having just returned from Afghanistan, were honored on the field. The Jumbotron featured shout-outs from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, currently serving in Kuwait. Minnesota Viking defensive end Jared Allen entered the field carrying a U.S. flag.

The highlight of the day belonged to Staff Sgt. Mathew Helget, who is serving with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division in Kuwait. Helget’s wife Jaime and 8-year old daughter Maddison stepped onto the field for what they thought was a video greeting on the large screen from Mathew in Kuwait. While they watching the message, out walked Mathew.
